September 15: The Red Shoes

A story of choice between creative individuality and conforming. If we give up our creative spirit, or it has been captured by the expectations of culture, work, family, relatives, etc. What do we lose?

As in all good teaching stories, The Red Shoes, has differing cultural versions, yet the same lesson. A young orphaned girl had no shoes. She wanders in the forest and survives by gathering food in the woods. Finding scraps of fabric, she sews a pair of red shoes. She loves these shoes – they are handmade (a term to remember!). They made her feel rich.

And then…

As we listen and think and talk through this story, we discover our handmade life – defined differently for each. What has become of it? Are we able to hold on to the excitement and satisfaction of a handmade life? Our heroine puts on a

cobbler’s version of the red shoes - if we do the same, what might be the consequences? Could an Enneagram Obsession be The Red Shoes?

A soulful excursion on Thursday, September 15. Join in.
